New I6 turbo engine for Mazda CX-70 & CX-90

Mazda is working hard on a transformation beyond simply updating and redesigning its products. In addition, the company is quietly moving some of its models into a more lucrative luxury market. This change is happening gradually, and some customers may not notice it, but it’s a significant shift for Mazda.

Two models will showcase this updated design to reflect this new direction: the CX-70 and CX-90 mid-size SUVs. The CX-90 is suspected of taking the place of the current CX-9. As for the CX-70, it will be a two-row version of the CX-90. These models will use Mazda’s new longitudinal engine platform, fitted with a 3.0L turbocharged I6 engine.

The all-new 3.0L engine is expected to offer a 48-volt mild hybrid system and a turbocharger.

This engine should deliver around 300 to 325 horsepower, according to reports. A plug-in hybrid powertrain using a 4-cylinder and a single AC electric motor is also in the works.

Earlier this year, Mazda unveiled the all-new CX-60 for the European market, but unfortunately, this model is not set to make its way to the Canadian market. Mazda has always been known for its sleek and stylish vehicles, and the Mazda CX-60 is no exception. Design-wise, the CX-60 should give us an idea of what to expect from the Mazda CX-70 and CX-90. Both cars are expected to be luxurious and comfortable, with a modern and sleek look. Mazda has been very successful in carrying over its styling designs between models, so it’s safe to say that we can expect the same with the CX-70 and CX-90.

Mazda has set a lofty goal for these new models – to compete in the luxury market.

Therefore, the Japanese automaker has developed models driven by a longitudinal engine configuration. These changes should result in a more exciting ride and better handling. Not only will this make Mazda competitive against BMW and other brands in that segment, but it will also attract new customers who want a luxurious product that is fun to drive and provides an engaging driving experience.

Mazda has yet to announce a launch date for their two vehicles, but they said that the CX-90 would be the first to be unveiled by the end of the year. After that, the automaker plans to follow up with the CX-70 in 2023.
